Janet Preus is a writer, playwright, songwriter and theater reviewer. She’s been a teacher of English, speech and theater and directed dozens of plays, musicals and light opera productions.

She’s won national awards for songwriting, and as a reporter and editor, she won state awards in broadcast and print journalism. She lives in her favorite city, Minneapolis, and her cabin in the north woods, where she’s working on a new musical, writing short-form pieces, and hiking or skiing in the woods every day she can. "Lillie’s Ghost: The Story of Skewed Justice in Frontier Otter Tail County " is her first book.

Being on the cusp of seasons - a cusp that can last for weeks - between winter and spring. I'm always sad when the snow melt makes it impossible to ski. But ... "spring will follow winter with water from snow." a line from the title song of my musical now in development.

Too many essays at once! About politics and coercive control, fairy houses, celiac disease,  vaccinations, and a special maple tree.
